Bedroom Project

Finally- I have pictures of our redone bedroom!  We did everything (paint, furniture, accessories).  Boy, is Cody glad that we're done with this one!  Now it's time to move on to the kitchen.  Haha.  I'll post the before and after pictures.

Before:

I was sick of the colors.  We got rid of the bedframe, curtains, and dresser.  I sold the furniture on ksl.  

 During:

We found an oak front door that had never been used (no hinges) at the Restore Habitat for Humanities store in Orem for $21 and a few pieces of Molding for a couple of dollars.  Cody used it to make a headboard by cutting it to the right size and puttign 4x4s on either side and putting the molding on with a 1x6 on top to framing it all together.  He then screwed it into a metal bed frame that we put on risers.

After:

I made the pillows.  The one with the yellows was my "inspiration" for the room.  I got that one at Joanns and waited for it to go 60% off.  I got the burlap and the other upholstering fabric at walmart for cheap.  In this picture you can't tell, but Cody even caulked and repainted the crown molding.

I had an old window that we got when a thrift store went out of business for $2.  We sanded it down and painted a rough coat of mustard yellow over it.  I bought a decal at Kohls (of all places!) for $5 (because I used a $10 gift I recieved from them)

We decided to use this ikea bookcase as our dresser.  We found it used on KSL for $75 and we bought 8 sturdy 13x13" boxes from target for $8 each.  We are hopefully going to buy a TV to go on top of the dresser so it doesn't look so bad.  If you can tell, the paint colors are slightly different here.  We used two shades darker on this wall.

The clock I found at target.  I have always loved this one and when I went to buy it I lucked out, it was 50% off! I got it for $20.

We love how it turned out!!  Thanks Cody for all your hard work and patience!!  We took the money we got from selling the bedframe and dresser and came out only spending about $200.  Not bad my friends, not bad.

Summa Time!

Well our summer has been kind of eventful so I thought I would catch everybody up on what we've been doing! (These pictures are in no particular order)

I caught a fish for my first time. We were so dirty from our 4 wheeler ride to the pond. We went camping to our friend Brett's ranch. We stayed a couple of nights with Mike & Heather, Brett & Hope, Eric & Diane, and us. It was a blast!

We went camping the weekend before up at Nunn's Park with Cody's Mom's side of the family. I wish we had gotten more pictures! We rode our bikes up to Vivian Park with cousins, played Ultimate Frisbee, had campfires, hiked up to Bridal Veil Falls, and I even learned how to longboard surprisingly enough! (Not that I'm good at it!)

We got a puppy! Her name is Bella (not after Twilight, after my nickname KristaBella). We got her on the 4th of July when someone was selling them outside of Wal-Mart! Her dad is full-bred Yorkie and the mom is half yorkie half another terrier (we think Norfolk). She is now 12 weeks old! It's been so fun having someone to be so excited when we get home and to play with. It worked out perfectly because I am home a lot right now so we've been able to train her easier.

We put the hammock we got in Mexico up in our living room. Cody is finally reading the Hunger Games books and loves them! I'm so proud of that 'lil guy!

My mom. She has always been there for me through my hard times and good. She's always there when I need someone to talk to or cheer me up. I feel bad that I have put her and my dad through so much but I'm so grateful for them for always loving me.

My wedding ring. We picked out a few different types together and then Cody surprised me with this one! I absolutely love it. It's so different than other people's rings. I think it's beautiful but I also love what it represents- our promise to be together forever and always remain true to each other. I love you Code :)

My New Vanity!

Um...Remember this old sewing desk that I got at The D.I. for $20? Well it's finally refinished and is now being used as a vanity along with the $15 chair I found at The D.I.! Take a look how we did it step by step.

First we took off all the hardware and seat on the chair. Then we sanded all the old lacquer off of the table and the chair using 150 grit sandpaper.

Next I sprayed all of the old hardware with Krylon spray paint.

After cleaning off the sawdust we primed all of the surfaces using Kilz primer. We used the spray to do the detailed surfaces and the chair and we used a smooth roller to do the big smooth surfaces (like that top and sides).

I found a scratched up mirror on clearance at Ross for $15. I sanded out the scratches (even though it is a plastic frame it worked) then taped, primed, and painted the mirror while I was waiting for the desk primer to dry.

After the primer dried we were able to put the paint on. We put 2-3 coats on and waited inbetween coats for it to dry. Again, we used a smooth roller for the big surfaces and we sprayed the paint on the detailed surfaces. We waiting until the next day to put the lacquer on. We used the Rustoleum brand clear coat.

After the paint was done I used Modge Podge and regular scrapbook paper to do the inide of the drawers. The paper was 12x12 but not quite long enough so I cut an extra strip to do along the back. I cute the paper to the right size, brushed a coat of Modge Podge on the bottom, smoothed the paper out on top then put a layer of Modge Podge on top of the paper.

The finished products! The fabric on the seat I bought at Hancock Fabrics. I used a staple gun and just wrapped the fabric around the existing seat/old fabric and stapled it in place. Once that was complete and the chair was painted we were able to screw the seat back into place.
